Frequently asked questions
Although customers still request video conversion to DVD, our most popular request at the moment is transferring home videos to a USB memory drive or hard drive so that they can be played back directly from a TV.

A USB drive will hold 100's of hours of your precious memories and will provide instant access to any of them. You can also edit the videos or make your own copies to share with friends and family.

Many modern laptops no longer have DVD players so it will probably not be long before the 2 hour capacity DVD takes its place in the format graveyard next to our old friends the VHS tape and floppy disk.

Personalised Photomontage

We take your photographs (or videos) and blend them smoothly with seamless transitions, into a movie - scanning across groups of friends or relatives or zooming into faces or places of interest.

Each photo is treated individually by us, giving the photomontage a very personal touch. Chose some music related to the content of the photos or simply have your favourite music playing in the background. You may even wish to record your own background commentary.

In order to really appreciate how fascinating these effects are you need to see the samples.

You can also view some of our more recent examples on our YouTube channel - ThePhotostoDVD.

These photomontages are very popular as gifts for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries but are also ideal for preserving those holiday memories. Previous customers have been astounded with what can be done with a few old photographs

Photographs and Photo Albums

Any type of photograph can be digitized. album

We typically scan at 300 dpi but you can upgrade to 600 dpi if you are looking to enlarge a photo or view it full size on a larger screen. Your scanned photographs will be provided on a personalised DVD.

These will be accessible on a PC allowing you to print them at your leisure. Many television DVD players will also allow a slideshow playback. We recommend using Google's free program called Picasa to manage your photo collection and playback slideshows.

Our restoration service may be used to enhance the quality of the scans. We offer:

Examples of the type of Photo Enhancement we offer can be found here

Photo Album Collections digitisedOur speciality is digitising collections of Photograph Albums. Just imagine what could happen to your precious memories if your home suffered from fire or water damage. Most digital collections fit onto one DVD so by giving copies to your children, parents or brothers and sisters they will never be lost

Give us a call and we will give you a very competitive quote.

However we recommend that you have your valuable photographs turned into what we call a photomontage. Slideshows are OK but can be a little boring. Be assured this is MUCH better than the slideshows you can produce yourself with the freebie programs that come with your computer.

PhotoBook or Calendar

Why create a PhotoBook?

Perhaps you have yellowing photos falling out of your old photo albums because the adhesive corners have lost their stick or you have lots of great digital photos on your computer that you hardly ever look at anymore. There are just too many and it is too complicated to look at every photo separately on the screen.

PhotoBooks are much more convenient to have on hand to share or relive memories with friends. With our PhotoBook’s superior quality you will relive memories of great holidays, celebrations, and outings again and again.

A PhotoBook is also a wonderful and individual present for any occasion.

You have the choice of hard or soft cover and if you wish we can add a high gloss page finish for a printing result that will astonish you and your friends with photos that almost jump off the page.

Alternatively we can create a personalised Calendar from your photos.
Prices from £35.00 for a 26 page Personalised PhotoBook or Photo Calendar.

VHS and Camcorder Videos

Somewhere in your house is a drawer full of videotapes - aging home movies shot with a big, bulky camcorder that may not even work anymore.

VHStoDVDIt is a sad fact, but magnetic tapes do not last forever. They start to degrade after only a couple of years, and after a few more years, you will begin to see a noticeable difference in the video quality. You may notice that your wedding video is not as sharp as it used to be, or there is some intermittent snow in the video, colour distortion, or even missing parts on the tape.

Soon you will not even be able to play your video at all! So what can you do to preserve your precious memories?

videos

For the reasons above and many more, DVDs are becoming the mainstream, and VHS is becoming obsolete.

We can convert all types of video formats to DVD -

Our basic service allows us to fit 2 hours of video on to each DVD. This can be a combination of several smaller videos or tapes. The screen menu provides thumbnail pictures of each video and inserts chapter marks every 5 minutes for ease of access and viewing on PC or TV.

VHS or camcorder tapes to USB Flash Drive

formats This is currently our most popular request.

The digitized videos are available as AVI, Mov or MP4 (recommended for Smart TVs) format which can be stored on your hard drive or USB memory stick and edited on software such as Microsoft Movie maker or iMovie which are both free with your computer.

They can be played directly from the USB input of your TV which saves having to load and unload DVDs. You can also make as many copies of them as you require for family and friends. The cost is comparable with digitisation to DVDs.

If you would like the digitised videos added to your own Memory stick please ensure there is sufficient free space. Each hour of video requires around I GB or 1000MB.

If you would like to see which format is best for your movie editor software try downloading the samples below onto your desktop or a Memory stick and find which works best on your computer's software.

Right click on the icon of the file type you wish to test and then save the file to your desktop or USB Flash Drive by selecting "Save link as" or "Save target as"

Give us a call if you need some help.

If you have a file in an unusual format and you would like to have it converted to a different format, give us a call and we be happy to help you.
