Why a Private Tutor?

Private tuition helps a student who has temporarily fallen behind to catch up or to stretch them further or give closer attention to their needs than is possible in a classroom environment.

My Background

I am experienced teacher who has taught for over 30 years in both private and state schools in the Aberdeen area. I have tutored for most of that time.

Tutoring Approach:

I find I can relate to students in a calm and patient manner and I have enjoyed helping them through difficulties with their subjects. I endeavour to find and solve the problems students have in their understanding to give them a firmer grasp of Physics, with the benefits from this being increased confidence and improved results.

One-to-one tuition significantly improves a student’s self-confidence. I can provide students with plenty of revision tips and study techniques as well as giving them a good indication of what the SQA expects of candidates in the final exam.

Although I cannot guarantee it, my students are usually able to upgrade by about 20% - as long as they are willing to do the hard work involved.
 
I work in parallel with the schoolwork - I do not like to interfere with the teacher's methods. This also means that I cover the entire syllabus thoroughly.

I generally work for home but if you live within about 3-4 miles I would come to your house.

I also offer Skype online tutoring to more distant pupils.

Rates

My standard private rate is from £50.00 per hour for one-to-one tuition.

This includes all of my preparation time and any exam papers or other materials used. I will also recommend the purchase of some revision and problem books. For greater travelling distances there would be an addition fee involved.

Tutorials of any duration can be booked. Normally sessions of an hour work well but if required, sometimes fortnightly two hour sessions are also available.

If you want to receive tuition in a small group (up to a maximum of three) I charge £15 per extra pupil, on top of my standard rate.
